With experience teaching at Duke University and the Settlement Music School, alongside leading masterclasses and residencies nationwide—including through World Projects at Carnegie Hall—I bring the same elite expertise and dedicated care to beginner students that I do to seasoned composers.

Music Theory
With a Bachelor of Music from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, a Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and both a Master of Arts and a PhD from Duke University - alongside advanced studies at the Aspen Music Festival and the elite European American Musical Alliance in Paris, France - I am uniquely equipped to teach the fundamentals of music theory.
Theory is the structural backbone of all music creation. Whether your goal is to inform your own composition projects or elevate your next instrumental performance, I invite you to venture with me beneath the hood to discover exactly what makes a piece of music drive.

Orchestration
My first orchestral work won a prestigious award and was subsequently published by one of the oldest and largest publishing companies in the world. Click here to listen to that work.
My orchestral works have since been commissioned and performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, and many others around the nation.
I like to think of orchestration as the practice of turning a black and white sketch into a fully realized oil painting. Let's color your next project together!

I have successfully prepared students to attend some of the top music institutions in the nation, including the Berklee College of Music.
Are you currently preparing to apply to music school? I will walk you through every step of the process, from building a pristine composition portfolio to successfully navigating auditions and specialized entrance examinations.
Perhaps you have already been accepted and simply want to bridge the gap before your first semester. I help incoming freshmen brush up on ear training skills and advanced theory knowledge. My students enter major music programs with the absolute confidence to succeed, frequently securing straight As in their first-year core music theory courses.
